Background
Since 2006, our Men’s Shed has been far more than a place for woodworking—it’s been a lifeline, a haven, and a community where men come together to share experiences, learn new skills, and, most importantly, support one another.
In a world where mental health struggles often go unspoken, our shed has stood as a sanctuary, fostering connection, purpose, and belonging.
Breaking the Silence Around Men's Mental Health
Mental health is an issue that affects countless men, but all too often, it’s something that is kept in the dark. Many men hesitate to reach out, conditioned to believe they should handle their struggles alone. Loneliness, anxiety, depression—these are battles fought quietly behind closed doors, yet they are far more common than society acknowledges.
The Men’s Shed challenges this silence. It offers a space where men can connect without pressure, where conversations flow naturally over shared projects, and where support is offered without judgment. The simple act of working side by side—sanding a piece of timber, fixing a joint, or just sitting down for a cup of tea—opens doors to conversations that might never have happened otherwise.
For many, the Shed has been a turning point. I know this firsthand. When I first came here, I was struggling deeply with my mental health. My daily routine felt empty, and I felt disconnected from the world around me. The Shed became more than just a place to work with my hands—it became my support system.
And when my journey took an even harder turn—when I was diagnosed with cancer—it was the friendships and encouragement I found at the Shed that carried me through treatment. The unwavering support, the laughter that cut through the fear, and the shared strength of the men around me made an unimaginable challenge bearable. If I hadn’t come to the Men’s Shed, I truly believe I wouldn’t have had that support system, that hope, or that strength.

Adrian & Neil
Now, in 2025, I have taken on the massive responsibility of running the Shed, facing a new challenge—the big task of moving.
A Future Worth Fighting For
As a self-funded initiative, we’ve always relied on the dedication of our members, the kindness of our supporters, and the generosity of those who believe in our mission. But now, we face one of our biggest challenges yet. Due to changes at the Phoenix Centre, we are relocating to two garages at the Trinity Centre—a necessary move, but one that comes with financial hurdles.
Creating a welcoming, functional environment in our new location requires funding we are struggling to secure. Without support, we risk losing a space that has been a sanctuary for so many—a space that has helped men battle loneliness, cope with grief, recover from depression, and rediscover purpose.
How You Can Help!
This is more than just a woodworking shed—it’s a community, and its impact is immeasurable. We need your help to keep it alive. Whether you can contribute funding, donate materials, lend a helping hand, or simply spread the word, every action makes a difference.
If you believe in the power of connection, shared purpose, and open conversations, we invite you to stand with us as we embark on this new chapter. Let’s ensure that, in 2025 and beyond, no man in our community has to face life’s challenges alone.
Join us, support us, and help us keep the Shed standing strong.
