GL Communities has run the Dig Deep Project over a number of years. Operating as a social enterprise it provided training and work experience for people in landscape management and then provided a reduced cost gardening service for the community.
Over the last year the project supported around 60 people on 12-week and 22-week placements and 12 have secured full-time permanent work with employers such as Gloucester City Homes and Amey Construction, while others now have the confidence to apply for work and a better chance of getting a job.
Trainees worked in around 150 local gardens of elderly residents and disabled people, as well as care home gardens.
In 2017 ‘Dig Deep Gloucester Ltd.’ has been set up, to continue the work of the project but as an independent business. The new organisation will continue to provide opportunities for people to train with them and provide a gardening service for vulnerable people in the community.
