The Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Project aims to engage with and support individuals in Gloucestershire who are currently dealing with circumstances that are potentially causing barriers to work and move these people closer towards education, training, volunteering or work, including self-employment.
The GEM Project will reconnect people with their local services and ultimately help them achieve their desired work based outcome through an individual personalised action plan. This programme is a unique partnership of community based organisations, managed by Gloucestershire Gateway Trust on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council.
Within GL Communities we have two Navigator Developers, Dorrett Samuels & Paul Stepney while there are others spread across Gloucestershire and specialise in a number of different areas.
The GEM Project Navigator Developers will work directly with individuals signed up to the project, as they guide each person throughout their entire journey to help them reach their goals. They will provide intensive 1:2:1 support in order to build their stability, confidence, motivation and readiness to learn, and ultimately move them closer towards education, training, volunteering or work, including self-employment. There are a range of benefits to you when signing up to the GEM Project, from personalised and financial support, to experience in the working environment. The programme is tailored around you, your needs and requirements.
If individuals register onto the GEM Project themselves or through referral, the GEM Management Team will assign a Navigator Developer based on the person’s location in Gloucestershire and any interests or specific circumstances.
Business Sector Leads have been appointed from both the VCSE and business community, to focus on the early identification of future employment opportunities across Gloucestershire, especially those in the predicted employment growth sectors identified in the LEP’s strategic economic plan.
These 8 identified sector leads cover the following areas:
- Health & Well-being
- Recreation and Leisure
- Land Based & Green Infrastructure
- Financial & Insurance
- Food Services & Accommodation
- Business & Admin
The GEM Project is keen to engage with organisations in other sectors, so please get in touch even if you think your business doesn’t fit into one of these sectors.
Lead by example and be a part of something great in building a better community and business environment in Gloucestershire.
The GEM Project is jointly funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund.
