Advice & Advocacy

GL Communities provides a specialist legal money advice service that is delivered by a team of money advice caseworkers through face to face sessions, telephone and online advice. Many of our sessions are delivered through outreach work and in partnership.  We have opportunties for volunteers to train with us to support the advice team and are currently developing a mentoring scheme that will provide support to people who are struggling to find their way out of debt.

We also provide training in financial capability, energy efficiency and work in social policy.

Big Difference SchemeSevern Trent Water

If you are short of cash at the end of each month, The BIG Difference Scheme may be for you.

The BIG Difference Scheme:-

  • Is accessible to all customers who receive either water and/or sewerage services from Severn Trent Water.
  • Is available to all customers regardless of age and employment status.
  • Offers customers a reduction ranging between 10% – 90%* off the average yearly charge.
  • Is valid for 12 months from date of acceptance.
  • Can provide extra help for anyone finding it difficult to pay water charges.

You don’t have to be in debt to apply and your water bill could become as low as £3.74 per month!

The advice team at GL Communities are able to offer access to 'The Big Difference Scheme' which has been set up to support people in financial difficulties.

You can access the Money Advice drop in sessions every morning from 9.30am to 12.30pm and Monday, Thursday afternoon 1:30pm to 3:00pm at the Trinity Centre.

*Based on the average water bill for customers in the Severn Trent region.

    All members of the Money Advice Team hold Money Advice qualifications and are accredited members of the Institute of Money Advisers (either fully qualified MIMA(Cert) or Associate Members, AIMA) gaining their qualifications from the University of Staffordshire. We are Debt Relief Order Intermediary registered. We hold a current Advice Quality Standard (AQS).

    GL Communities is committed to making our services accessible to all. Our office is fully wheelchair accessible, with a ramp and disabled toilet facilities. We have access to telephone language interpretation service covering all of the world’s major languages and for clients with hearing loss, we can use sign language interpreters, lip speakers, note takers or other communication support available from local organisations. Service dogs are welcome.

    Online advice is available to anyone in Gloucestershire.

    Telephone advice:

    Please call our Money Advice Line between 9.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. on weekdays and an adviser will call you back.

    We offer a face to face drop-in advice service at our office and various outreach locations across the county. In order for us to give you the best advice please bring any paperwork relating to your debts and proof of your income. Everyone will be seen on the day.

  • Workshops

    We can deliver workshops to groups on all areas of financial education including managing money and benefit applications online. To book workshops do get in touch.
  • Volunteering

    If you are interested in becoming a volunteer adviser or a mentor to people who are struggling to come out of debt, do get in touch. If being an adviser is not your thing then we do need assistance with administration and the like.
