Tom was referred to GEM by the office of the Gloucester MP, Richard Graham in August 2020. He met Paul, our Navigator Developer, at the city’s bus station. They talked about Tom’s current situation; he’d been unemployed for five months after being made redundant from his job at the airport.
He has a master’s degree in tourism, but most of his work has been as a porter in hospitality. But with the lockdown, jobs were scarce. Together Tom and Paul decided to focus on the care and security sectors.
A job search found 20 jobs in care work and 10 in security, plus training opportunities. In total Paul helped identify 40 possible jobs for Tom before he eventually secured a full-time position as a porter at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
Richard Graham MP adds;
“Thanks Paul, I’m delighted this has all gone well and Tom is now in a job: congratulations to you and GEM for showing what can be done! He is a long time contact so especially pleased.”
